COVID-19 | Authorities impose curfew in Kathua ‘People quarantined rue lack of facilities, food’

Authorities have imposed curfew in Kathua district to prevent spread of coronavirus after more than 12,00 people who entered J&K during last few days where quarantined at different facilities in the district. An official said only essential services as notified in the list issued by the government would be allowed to run. He said being the entry point to J&K, the authorities at Lakhanpur have stopped 15 vehicles carrying passengers. “These people have been told to return to the place wherefrom they have come,” said SSP Kathua, Shalindra Mishra. He said there will be complete curfew in Kathua and only employees associated with essential services would be allowed to move. Meanwhile, the people quarantined have alleged the administration was providing them food on time.“There are children, women, and ailing people who have been quarantined. They need timely meal but it is not being provided,” said a student quarantined at one of the centers.The student said the toilets and washrooms were also not clean at these quarantine facilities.An official said the administration was accommodating people more than the capacity of these facilities resulting in crowd.Jammu airport and railway station Jammu have been closed and residents of J&K living across the country, trying to enter J&K via road from Lakhanpur have been told to go back.
