Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Qayoom Wani on Thursday announced that he has retired from politics to protest the abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories. “Not only PDP, I will not be part of any political party in the future,” said Wani in a statement issued today. “I will only work as a civil society member and former leader of employees union.” Wani, who headed the teachers’ forum in Jammu and Kashmir, unsuccessfully contested the Baramulla parliamentary elections last year on PDP ticket. He was among dozens of political leaders detained following the August 5 move of the Union government.
