The air quality in Delhi and the national capital region (NCR) has slightly improved on Tuesday, a day after the Supreme Court termed the situation as “worse than Emergency” and issued a number of directives to curb pollution. On Tuesday morning, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recorded pollution levels in Delhi at 397 which is in the “very poor” category. Data from the Anand Vihar observatory at 8 am showed the PM 2.5 level at 474 while PM 10 was at 428. While there had been a slight improvement on Monday due to the picking up of wind speeds, the average AQI recorded by CPCB was at 407, which was still in the ‘severe’ category. Delhi’s real time AQI improved rapidly by Monday evening, with the CPCB recording it at 376 in the ‘very poor’ category as of 8 pm. The IMD has forecast light showers due to westerly disturbances around Delhi on November 7 which could further improve the AQI.
