Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary chaired a meeting of the concerned officers regarding holding of mass awareness programs on plastic waste management in the Gram Panchayats of the district under Swacchta Hi Sewa here today. Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil Sonam Chosjor, Assistant Commissioner Development Kargil Ghulam Muhammad, District Panchayat Officer Kargil Shabir Hussain, Block Development Officers of different blocks besides other concerned officers attended the meeting. The Deputy Commissioner said that with the objective to ensure effective and successful conduct of the programme in the district, a team of 98 officers have been assigned responsibilities to hold the waste management campaign in all the 98 Gram Panchayats of the district on the pattern of Back to Village Programme. It was informed in the meeting that the designated officers would work in close coordination with the Village Level Workers (VLWs), Gram Rozgar Sewkas (GRS), other field functionaries as well as the villagers in their respective Gram Panchayats for enlightening the masses about the segregation of dry and wet waste as well as different types of dry waste with particular focus on plastic waste. The meeting was further informed that special kits would be provided to all designated officers for collection and segregation of waste as recyclable, non-recyclable, disposable and turning the waste into resource. The DC instructed the BDOs to intimate the Sarpanchs and Panchs of the respective Gram Panchayats well in advance about the schedule of the sanitation campaign. He also asked them to ensure adequate participation of women folk and Anganwadi workers in the waste management campaign. He urged officers to work with missionary zeal and commitment for enlightening the masses about the benefits of hygiene and sanitation in practical terms. Meanwhile, the officers present in the meeting also put forth their suggestions and ideas about waste management.
