Star sprinter Hima Das donates half of salary for Assam flood relief

Star sprinter Hima Das has donated half of her monthly salary to aid relief efforts in Assam, her home state, which is reeling under heavy floods. The star sprinter, who is presently in Europe, participating in training camps and competitive meets, deposited the amount to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund on Tuesday. Flood situation in Assam turns critical with all 33 districts of the state facing deluge. 17 deaths have been reported so far and over 45 lakh people affected. Hima Das has become an icon in her home state ever since she became the first Indian sprinter to win a gold at a global athletics meet in July last year. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has also appealed to the people of the state to donate for the relief fund.
