Chief Engineer, EM&RE Wing, Jammu, Sudhir Gupta, today called a co-ordination committee meeting of officers from various divisions of the wing to formulate strategy to meet the growing power demand besides dealing with frequent power curtailments due to system overload. It was informed that with the rise in mercury, the oil and windings of power transformers get heated up and exceed the thermal limit of the said transformers, causing forced power curtailment. As an immediate solution to this issue, it was decided that external cooling through air blast shall be done by installing cooling fans as they will help in reducing the temperature of the said transformers, thereby enhancing their capacity. It was further decided that the temperature of the oil and windings shall be maintained under 85 degree centigrade, within which no power shedding will be done. It was informed that under R-APDRP scheme, IRCON has recently constructed three new receiving stations at Balmiki Chowk, Gandhi Nagar and Shakti Nagar, which are awaiting minor formalities/ clearances. The said agency was asked to make arrangements to commission the said Stations immediately so that the same can be added into the system during this period of high-power demand. Likewise, the newly installed Distribution Transformers by IRCON shall be right away charged and put into use for meeting the growing load in the ongoing season. Besides, the concerned Executive Engineers were asked to take up enforcement drive vigorously towards disconnecting illegal electricity connections. In addition, list of consumers with heavy arrears shall be prepared by all the Divisions and disconnections in this regard shall be affected immediately. It was also decided that proper coordination shall be established between different wings of the Department and PIAs/ contractors for implementing various schemes, for which whatsapp groups will be created for immediate posting of any kind of power interruption and spontaneous resolution thereof.
