Sopore shuts on second straight day to mourn killing of local militant in south Kashmir shootout

Shutdown is being observed in Sopore and it’s adjoining areas for the second straight day against the killing of a local militant in a gunfight with the security forces in south Kashmir’s Shopian district yesterday.

All shops and other business establishments remained shut while as thin movement of traffic was witnessed on the roads in Sopore town.

Authorities have suspended the class work at a few educational institutions in Sopore sub division as a precautionary measure.

“In view of prevailing situation and as a precautionary measure, Govt Degree college. Sopore, higher secondary school boys and higher secondary school girls Sopore shall suspend their class work tomorrow on May 11th 2019,” read an order issued by the additional district magistrate Sopore last evening.

The rest of the educational institutions, it said, will function normally.

Ishfaq Ahmad Sofi alias Abdullah Bhai, a resident of Model Town Sopore was killed in a gunfight with the security forces in southern Shopian district early Friday.
