A militant was killed in an ongoing gunfight with the security forces at a village in south Kashmir’s poll bound Shopian district on early Friday morning.
A police official said the militants opened fire on the forces from a residential house during a cordon and search operation in Aadkhara village of Imam Sahab area of the district. He said that the fire was immediately returned, leading to an encounter in which one militant was killed. His identity was not known immediately, said the official.
The firing was going on when this report was being filed.
Mobile Internet service was snapped in entire south Kashmir soon after the gunfight broke out. The Shopian district is going to polls on May 6 for Anantnag Lok Sabha seat.
