When it comes to killings, terrorists have no need to strike the Jammu city as the Metadoors plying on Jammu roads are performing this unholy task efficiently.
The yesterday’s killing of a young girl of a private school while she was coming out of her institution on her Scooty and was crushed by a rashly driven Metadoor apart from leaving her brother critically injured, has forced all the well wishers of this city to think of the ways and means to curb this wrong doing on our roads.
Earlier too, many a times the rash driving of Metadoors have claimed many lives and injuries to many more. These vehicles ply on busy Jammu roads like vehicles participating in some race or rally.
The drivers and the conductors engaged with these vehicles have the only motive of carrying more and more passengers so as to increase the revenue and for that purpose they may stop all of a sudden, even at the middle of the road not even signaling for that which may even cause the vehicle coming behind to hit.
These vehicles mostly create a terrifying scene when they try to overtake others in an attempt to pick some extra passenger waiting at roadside.
The riders of two-wheeler many a times have a narrow escape when Metadoor drivers act as fighters on roads.
Inside Metadoors vulgar and even loud music is played making the ladies travelling in these vehicles feel uneasy. When object, the conductors and drivers uses wrong language and may even misbehave.
They even jump traffic lights putting others to inconvenience and risk.
Traffic cops have reasons to show a blind-eye and deaf-ear as they get Hafta from these Metadoors. They have even maintained proper record-books at every naka-points with registration number of Metadoors and details of illegal money.
Many of such vehicles are not even properly maintained and release a lot of smoke thereby adding to pollution in the city and are also very noisy due to their unmaintained engines and loud horns.
It is high time for the authorities concerned-Traffic Police, Transport Department and others to honestly play their role in putting a check on the unprofessional and terrifying driving by the Metadoors. Cutting Challans is not enough. Violation of speed limits, dangerous driving etc must be taken as criminal offences. Anyhow, if the concerned authorities fail to perform their jobs honestly, public will be forced to come on roads in protest against all these inhuman activities on our roads.
