Jammu, May 19: The rape victim of Akhnoor fears that she will not get justice as the then Station House Officer (SHO) Sub-Inspector Mohammad Iqbal alleged culprit behind the heinous crime is an influential person.
In a press conference here today she threatened to end her life in front of the Police Station Akhnoor if stringent punishment is not given to the culprit who outraged her modesty.
However, she called it a ‘shame’ when asked that the State is being ruled by a woman Chief Minister.
Flanked by her husband and woman activist Preeti Chouhan from New Delhi and Komal Manhas, a National Conference activist—the alleged rape victim told reporters that she is a major and had married a man of his choice in a local court and went to Katra when her father registered a kidnapping case against her husband.
She further said that she even told his to the SHO Khour at Police Station but still he kept her along with her husband in police custody and added that the SHO used to address her by calling her “Beti”.
“At the dead of night Mamta Kumari—a constable at Police Station Khour took me to the residential quarters of the SHO in pretext of giving me some important instructions which may facilitate my release from the police custody,” she said with tears in her eyes.
“Mamta left me in SHO’s room and bolted the door from outside and I cried before the SHO to spare me. I even touched his feet but he slapped me and forcefully committed the heinous crime,” the victim said.
She further added that the SHO threatened to level many cases against her husband and her father if she disclosed this to anyone. “In the court I told the judge that I am a major and have married of my own will and the judge ordered my release but still the SHO released us when we paid Rs. 2 lakh to him through his Munshi,” she said.
She also said that after she got the complaint registered against the said SHO, her family members especially her father and husband are being badly harassed and cops uselessly call them to police station.
She said she too is being called to police station and nonsense questions are being asked to her regarding the heinous crime.
