Taranjit Singh Tony, General Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) and District Development Council (DDC) Member from Suchetgarh, led a deputation of Sikh community leaders to meet Bharat Singh Solanki, Prabhari Congress J&K, and Manoj Yadav, Seh Prabhari J&K Congress. The delegation discussed various demands of the Sikh community and sought proper representation in the upcoming J&K Assembly elections.
During the meeting, Tony emphasized the significant contributions and the decisive votes and role of the Sikh community in various constituencies across the state. He stated, “The Sikh community has consistently shown great faith in the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, particularly after the Bharat Jodo Yatra. It is imperative that their demands and aspirations are adequately represented in the J&K Congress’s decision-making bodies and the upcoming Assembly elections.”
Tony stressed the necessity for the Sikh community to have a proper share in Assembly seats and positions within the decision-making framework of Jammu and Kashmir. He underscored the importance of this representation to ensure that the community’s issues and aspirations are effectively conveyed to the Congress High Command.
He also sought that the Punjabi Language should be brought in the 8th Scheduled and the matter may kindly be highlighted through Congress leadership in the Parliament
Various prominent Sikh community leaders also spoke on the occasion, reinforcing the demand for due representation in the upcoming elections.
Parvinder Singh Happy highlighted the community’s longstanding support for the Congress party and its leaders. Mohinder Singh, former Chairman of the Transport Union, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the need for the community’s voices to be heard at the highest levels.
Bharat Singh Solanki assured the Sikh deputation that their demands will be looked into and assured that fair representation cannot be sidelined. The delegation included notable figures such as Punjab Singh, a respected social worker and leader in the dairy industry, Raman Singh Wazir, Tatinder Pal Singh (ex-Sarpanch), Ajmeet Singh (Sikh Naujawan Sabha), Sarabjit Singh (Sarpanch), Manjit Singh, Capt Ghaar Singh, Makhan Singh, Jasbir Singh, Kuldeep Singh Shanty, and Ravinder Singh Bittu. The meeting concluded with a strong appeal to the Congress leadership to recognize the pivotal role of the Sikh community and ensure their fair representation in the Assembly and other decision-making bodies. The deputation left with a sense of optimism, hoping that their demands would be given due consideration in the party’s strategic planning for the upcoming elections.
