Ease of doing business: Industry ministry to work on next round of reforms

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) on Wednesday held a meeting with the industry representatives on its agenda items for promoting ease of doing business in the coming months.
Apart from the industry and DPIIT, officials from other departments also were part of the discussions that centred around Jan Vishwas Bill 2.0, national single window system and World Bank’s Business Ready Index which is being compiled.
The meeting, chaired by DPIIT secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, sought views of the industry on what should be the part of second version of Jan Vishwas Bill, B Ready Index and the single window system that will grant multiple approvals for businesses with one application.
Last year at one go the government amended 42 existing Acts administered by 19 ministries through Jan Vishwas Act. Within these Acts that deal with different areas of business, 183 provisions were amended to decriminalise offences that are minor, procedural and technical in nature. Now work on another round of Jan Vishwas bill is on. Business Ready (B-READY) is the World Bank’s new flagship report benchmarking the business environment and investment climate in most economies worldwide. It will be launched in September and country-wise surveys for it are on. It replaces the Doing Business Report of the bank. The report assesses the regulatory framework and public services directed at firms, and the efficiency with which regulatory framework and public services are combined in practice. Improve financial literacy and redress A national single window system (NSWS) was earlier launched for businesses to provide support to investors, including pre-investment advisory, information related to land banks, and facilitation of clearances at the Centre and state levels. A number of states have integrated with this system.
It allows online filing and tracking of all applications and clearances, thereby helping investors to obtain clearances from different stakeholders without visiting different government offices
