Col Mahan emphasizes agriculture development at awareness camp

In a bid to bolster agricultural awareness and address pressing issues faced by farmers, a district-level Agriculture Awareness Camp was convened by the District Agriculture Department at Village Plakh. Over 200 farmers and members of Self-Help Groups participated in the event.
Retired Colonel Mahan Singh, the esteemed DDC Chairman of Kathua, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Among the distinguished attendees were Murari Dingra, District Agriculture Officer, Ravinder Saini, SMS (SDL), Rohit Billawaria SDO Basohli, Sandeep Andotra HDO Basohli, Capt Ram Rattan, and Usha Thakur, among others.
Participants shed light on critical issues such as the menace posed by monkeys, crop damage caused by wild and stray animals, and the lack of irrigation facilities. Moreover, beneficiaries of various central schemes including PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, KCC Holders, SHG females, FPO Members, and HADP beneficiaries were present, underscoring the diverse spectrum of stakeholders in agriculture.
Addressing the gathering, Col Mahan Singh underscored the government’s commitment to uplifting the farming community in alignment with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of doubling farmers’ income.
He urged the Agriculture Department staff to assist farmers in identifying their land’s potential for specific crop cultivation to maximize yield.
Furthermore, the DDC Chairman stressed the imperative of enhancing irrigation systems and urged district officers to facilitate interested farmers in acquiring agricultural machinery at subsidized rates. Emphasizing the untapped potential of the region, Col Mahan advocated for the cultivation of millets, citrus fruits, and organic vegetables to harness exponential growth opportunities.
The Agriculture Awareness Camp served as a platform for fruitful discussions and collaborative efforts aimed at empowering farmers and fostering agricultural prosperity in Kathua district.
