The NSS Unit of Dogra Degree College, Bari Brahmana in collaboration with Red Ribbon Club, DDC and UBA PI, DDC marked the celebration of World Aids Day by organizing an Inter-College Symposium Competition today on the theme “AIDS: STIGMA AND MENTAL HEALTH”. The participants from various colleges of Jammu division actively participant in the competition. The programme started with the registration of the participants from the various colleges.
The chief guest of the function was Dr. Bela Thakur, Principal Dogra Degree College. The students from various colleges of Jammu Division participated in the symposium competition and expressed their diverse views on the theme “AIDS: STIGMA AND MENTAL HEALTH”. The participants shared their ideas about Aids ,its origin, causes, preventions and consequences. The participants gave the detailed knowledge about the disease, its causal organism –the HIV virus, its life cycle and its whole activity that how its affects the person who gets infected with it. The participants also put light on the lack of awareness among the masses and especially young boys and girls who are more prone to this disease and gets easily affected with aids due to lack of adequate knowledge about the disease.
The young participants also brought it into the lime light that one of the major reason for the lack of awareness among the masses that in our culture the young boys and girls are not properly guided by the family ,teachers and experts about the sex education and some kind of taboo is created in the society related to these kind of issues and especially for AIDS. No one talks about it openly and finds it bad or hesitant to talk, discuss or share ideas related to it.
The judges for the Symposium competition were : Ms. Indu Puri, Senior Professor, Department of Hindi, Dogra College of Education, Ms. Divya Kataria, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Dogra Law College and Ms. Palak Gupta, Assistant Professor, Department of EVS, Dogra Degree College. The first prize was bagged by Sania Rajput (Dogra Degree College), the second prize was won by Maninder Singh, (GDC, R. S. Pura), and the third prize was bagged by Abdul Haleem (Dogra Law College). The winners were awarded with prizes and certificates. The participants who participated in the competition were: Pragati Kumari, Rinchal Namgyal, Jasleen Kour, Pallavi Sharma, Abdul Haleem, Zehnabi and Dhariya Jamwal.
All the participants were given the certificates of participation. The programme was well conducted by Ruksaar, student of B.A., DDC. The programme was coordinated by Divya pargal. The whole programme was organized under the supervision of Ms Priyanka Sharma, NSS, PROGRAMME OFFICER, NSS Unit, DDC.
