Cold storage of five thousand metric tonnes capacity will be built at Talab Tillo in Jammu city. The Administrative Council has approved its construction. The decision was taken in a meeting of the Administrative Council chaired by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Advisor to Lieutenant Governor Farooq Khan, Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar, along with Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta and Principal Secretary Niteshwar Kumar, were present.
It will be possible to keep fruits and vegetables fresh in a first of its kind cold storage in Jammu. This multiple purpose cold store will be ready in eight months at Talab Tillo from 2646.73 lakhs. Farmers will benefit from this. During the two years in the state, the Jammu and Kashmir government has taken many important decisions to promote agriculture and allied sectors. In these, work is being done to increase the yield of agriculture and horticulture and keep it fresh for a long time. For this, the private sector is being encouraged.
So far, 1.98 lakh metric tonnes of cold storage has been arranged in the private sector in the state. Earlier, this system was limited to only one cultivation. Now it will be possible to keep vegetables fresh and fruits with the help of cold stores being set up in Jammu. Farmers will get full price for their produce. They will not be forced to sell fruits and vegetables at low prices.
The administrative control of the Craft Development Institute will now rest with the Department of Industry and Commerce. Its purpose is to promote the arts and crafts of Jammu and Kashmir by GI-Tagging it.
The Administrative Council has approved the transfer of administrative control of the Craft Development Institute to the Department of Industry and Commerce. Advisors Farooq Khan, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta and Principal Secretary to Lieutenant Governor Nitish Kumar were present in the meeting of the Administrative Council chaired by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Through the Craft Development Institute, the GI texting process of the crafts of Jammu and Kashmir will be streamlined. The objective of the decision is to promote and develop traditional, contemporary, modern crafts. Craft Development Institute plays an essential role in identifying and promoting art craft. The institute has given GI tags to Pashmina, Sojni, Kani, Thamtaband, Pepper Machinery, Walnut Carving and Carpets. Earlier, to encourage pashmina weavers, the government had given administrative control from the skill development department to the industry and commerce department to certify and test pashmina products.
