Jammu: Demolished Shop owners attack Corporator’s Husband

A shop at Vivekanand Chowk in Jammu which was constructed on Temple land was demolished in an encroachment drive by Jammu Municipal Corporation.

Corporator Ritu Chaudhary who spoke in favour of demolition, her husband and other members of the area were attacked by the shop defenders in the Temple. 3 people are injured and have been admitted to GMC. The attack happened at 3:30 in the morning.

“Some of our area’s men were in the Temple at night. They were attacked brutally. My husband and others have got injured. We all have gathered to raise our voice against the incident. Our people have sacrificed their lives for a Temple and we’ll stand by it till we protect the Temple land.” Corporator Ritu Chaudhary said

“We were inside the Temple. They were 4-5 people and introduced themselves as Police officers. As we opened the door, they attacked us with weapons. One of my mates got injured while somehow I ran away to inform everyone here. Their 2 members got hurt while defending themselves and they are admitted in GMC too.” said Vinay who was inside the Temple

Ritu and other society members had submitted protection letters in Residency road Police Station and Gujjar Nagar Police Station.

“We had submitted protection letters in Residency road and Gujjar Nagar Police Stations which clearly stated that they will be responsible for any attack on us. Even after the morning incident, Police officials haven’t visited the place yet.” Ritu said
