A Nation United Against Terror

Prime Minister’s remarks during the “Mann Ki Baat” program, addressing the brutal terrorist attack in Pulwama, echo the anguish and anger felt by every Indian. Indeed, this heinous incident has left the entire nation outraged and seething with grief. The barbarity of the Pulwama attack was so profound that people expressed their fury in different ways, and rightly so. It is reassuring that the Prime Minister has pledged unwavering solidarity with the victims’ families and emphasized the need to bring the masterminds of this atrocity to justice. There is widespread consensus that Pakistan must be held accountable for its continued patronage of terror networks. However, mere rhetoric is insufficient. After the Uri attack, India’s surgical strikes across the border were seen as a strong message. Yet, the subsequent targeting of Indian security forces at Pulwama made it clear that Pakistan had not altered its course. The airstrike on Pakistan following Pulwama was a necessary step that demonstrated India’s resolve. Though it rattled Pakistan, its repeated provocations reveal that it has no intention of abandoning its animosity towards India. It is evident that Pakistan has been deeply wounded by the global condemnation it faces, but its inability to introspect and reform is a cause for concern. It continues to act irresponsibly, ignoring the lessons that history offers. The unity displayed by India’s political class in the immediate aftermath of the Pulwama attack was heartening. It is vital that this solidarity be maintained. However, regrettably, some political leaders have indulged in irresponsible statements, undermining national sentiment. Congress leader Manishankar Aiyar’s comments, suggesting the attack was a result of unresolved political questions, reflect a dangerous and misleading narrative. His tendency to make remarks that align with Pakistan’s propaganda is deeply unfortunate. Such statements not only weaken India’s position internationally but also betray the sentiments of the people. It is crucial for political leaders to rise above partisan politics and present a united front against terror. Questions about accountability and preparedness are important, but timing and tone must be considered. The nation demands a leadership that stands firm against its adversaries and prioritizes national interest above narrow political gains. The Pulwama tragedy must serve as a reminder that India’s fight against terrorism is far from over. Only a strong, united, and resolute India can defeat the nefarious designs of its enemies.
