Failed Drug Standards

Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) has failed 53 medicines in the quality test of medicines. The quality of many of these medicines is poor and on the other hand many medicines are also being sold as fake. These medicines also include some medicines for BP, diabetes, acid reflux and vitamins. Apart from this, the medicines which have been failed by CDSCO in the quality test include fever reducer paracetamol, pain killer diclofenac, antifungal medicine fluconazole and medicines of many big pharmaceutical companies of the country and these have also been declared harmful for health. Certainly this news is going to cause trouble and concern. What an irony that these medicines have been sold openly under the nose of the government for a long time. The release of the list of medicines not meeting the quality standards has increased the health safety concerns of those patients who were using these medicines. Unfortunately, this list also includes medicines for hypertension, diabetes, calcium supplements, vitamin-D3 supplements, vitamin B complex, vitamin-C, anti-acid, anti-fungal, respiratory disease prevention. It also includes medicines for treating seizures and anxiety. These medicines are also produced by big companies. Patients take medicines in the hope that it will cure their disease. But what if they find out that the medicines they are consuming are not medicines but have come in the market as poison? Today in India, these medicines are not saving the lives of millions of people but are killing them, human greed and avarice are killing people. Such selfish people and those who play with life have been called demons, demons or devils who are distributing death in the name of health security in various ways in the society and the nation. These medicines found to be substandard and defective in quality also include medicines of many well-known companies. These cases of medicines being found substandard have come up when there are already many strict processes to determine the quality of medicines. These include testing of raw materials and inspection of the manufacturing process. Despite this, if the products of even reputed drug manufacturing companies do not meet the standards, then it should be believed that in the pursuit of earning more profit at a lower cost, these companies have started ignoring ethics and humanity. This is not the first time that medicines have not met the quality standards. The question remains in the minds of common people that if these medicines do not meet the standards, to what extent do their negative effects affect our health. Also, has any action been taken against those who were selling substandard medicines? At present, no information has been officially revealed in this regard. Undoubtedly, it is shameful and highlights the failure of the system that the medicines that people buy to get relief from physical problems are substandard? It is very possible that such substandard medicines may also have negative effects. Serious research is needed in this regard. There is also a concern that if these medicines are not caught in random sampling, then their open sale poses a threat to people’s health. On one hand, CDSCO has exempted medicines imported from America, Australia, Japan, Canada and some selected countries of the European Union from regular sample testing for smooth supply of medicines, while on the other hand, this defect found in the medicines of the drug manufacturing companies reaching the country’s markets is going to have an adverse effect on our image. Negligence at any level in drug testing is unforgivable because the game of manipulation in the drug business can become an enemy of people’s lives. See the irony that even the state governments shy away from taking action against these drug companies run by the powerful and wealthy class. The price of which has to be paid by the common people. It is unfortunate that human values have deteriorated to such an extent that people are not even hesitating to play with the lives of suffering patients for their profits. It is a matter of concern that a popular medicine that prevents stomach infection is also included in the medicines that fail in quality and standards. It is noteworthy that in August this year, the Central Government had banned the sale of 156 Fixed Dose Combination (FDC) drugs. Actually, these medicines were commonly used as cold and fever medicines, pain relievers, multivitamins and antibiotics. The production, distribution and use of these medicines were banned fearing that they could be harmful to patients. The government had taken this decision on the recommendation of the Drug Technical Advisory Board. Which believed that the medical quality of the ingredients included in these medicines is questionable. Actually, making a single pill by mixing several medicines is called Fixed Dose Combination Drugs (FDC). However, the lack of quality of life-saving medicines used in common diseases is nothing but playing with the lives of patients. For which, the accountability of the regulatory departments should be fixed and the culprits selling substandard medicines should be given strict punishment. Actually, people with such demonic thinking only look after their own interests.
