Commuters experienced unprecedented traffic chaos from Kaluchak to Bari Brahmana due to severe mismanagement by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) amidst the ongoing construction of the Katra-Delhi Expressway project. The extensive traffic jams led to significant delays and immense hardships for daily commuters, creating a ripple effect of frustration and discontent among the public.
The construction work on the ambitious Katra-Delhi Expressway, a project expected to significantly reduce travel time between Jammu and the national capital, has been ongoing for several months. However, the lack of proper traffic management and alternative routes has turned the daily commute into a nightmare for thousands of residents.
As per the reports, the traffic jams stretched for several kilometers, with vehicles moving at a snail’s pace. Many commuters were stuck in traffic for hours, missing important appointments and facing considerable inconvenience. The situation was exacerbated by the lack of clear signage and proper detours, leading to confusion and chaos on the roads.
Local residents and daily commuters have expressed their frustration over the situation. “It’s a complete mess. There is no proper management, and we are left to fend for ourselves in these traffic snarls,” said Sunil Kumar, a daily commuter. “The authorities should have planned better before starting such a major project,” he added.
Emergency services were also severely impacted. Ambulances and other emergency vehicles found it difficult to navigate through the clogged roads, raising concerns about the potential risks to public health and safety. “We are finding it extremely challenging to reach patients on time. This delay can be critical in emergency situations,” said an ambulance driver caught in the traffic.
Businesses along the route have also been affected. Shopkeepers and vendors reported a significant drop in customers due to the traffic congestion. “People are avoiding this route because of the traffic. Our sales have dropped drastically,” said Rakesh Gupta, a local shop owner.
As the construction of the Katra-Delhi Expressway progresses, it is imperative that the NHAI authorities address these issues promptly to prevent further disruption and ensure smoother travel for all. The authorities should take immediate action to implement alternative routes and better traffic management strategies to ease the congestion and improve the daily commute for residents and travelers.
