The ten-day workshop on Kathak techniques used in Bollywood choreography, organized by the Kathak Department, Institute of Music & Fine Arts (IMFA), University of Jammu, concluded with a grand valedictory function. The event featured four distinguished guests: Mr. Deepak Kumar, Director of Rangyug; Retd. Session Judge Sh. Suresh Sharma; Music Director and Composer Sh. Pankaj Pardhan; and RJ Juhi Mohan from 92.7 Big FM.
The valedictory function showcased a special video highlighting the journey and achievements of all participants who enrolled in the workshop, an experiment unique in its approach. Dr. Priya Dutta, Head of the Music Department, was highly praised for her efforts, as students gained a deep understanding of Kathak in a short period.
Dr. Priya Dutta delivered the welcome address, while Rajkumar Sharma handled the compering and vote of thanks.
The workshop, which began ten days ago, was inaugurated by Prof. Umesh Rai, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the University of Jammu. Speaking at the inauguration, Prof. Rai commended the Kathak Department for organizing a workshop on such a significant theme. He emphasized the importance of Music & Fine Arts in the New Education Policy (NEP) and highlighted the vital role of Kathak techniques in Bollywood, particularly in classical films.
Director Rangyug Mr. Deepak Kumar congratulated Dr. Priya Dutta for taking such an initiative to train the young generation about our traditional dance form through new ideas. Sh. Suresh Sharma appreciated the efforts and congratulated both the candidates and their parents for connecting with Kathak. Sh. Pankaj Pardhan, speaking on the occasion, emphasized the need for such workshops to be organized regularly for the promotion of Kathak dance. RJ Juhi Mohan congratulated the whole team for their initiative.
The show concluded with a vote of thanks . Members present on the occasion were Shivani Kapoor and Vijay Kumar.
