As part of encouraging the spirit of Entrepreneurship as well as exposure & awareness to new Technologies a trip was organised by 2 J&K (I) Company NCC for the Cadets to visit Sher-E-Kashmir University of Sciences & Technology ( SKUAST) -Jammu. The cadets were exposed to the techniques of Hydroponics by Dr Gurdev Chand, Professor and Chief Scientist in Hydroponics. The Passion and Purpose with which Dr Gurdev engaged the NCC Cadets was awesome inspiring.
During the session Dr Gurdev Chand elucidated the transition of agriculture into agro-business and agro-tourism showcasing the potential of Hydroponics in revolutionizing farming practices. He underscored the significance of initiatives like terrace gardening enabling individuals to cultivate a variety of exotic & regular vegetables thereby contributing to the nation’s economy and resource conservation.
The aim is to make the youth more aware of options available to make the agricultural practices more sustainable, profitable and easy to engage. The majority of cadets come from humble background and are not aware of the regional schemes and initiatives which can empower and enable the youth with enhanced skills. NCC under the higher guidelines and directives has initiated a process of acting as a conduit in making the aspirations of youth meet the new opportunities. Exposing the youth to new technologies is being taken as a huge fillip as many young people aspire to up-skilling and earn their livelihood from practices which contribute towards better utilisation of resources and increase the productivity. All this is being pursued under the visionary leadership of Maj Gen Rajesh Kumar Sachdeva, ADG, NCC Directorate of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh who believes that every exposure and awareness drive leaves the youth more aware and more aware youth can have considered choices while selecting their future course of life. ADG extends his gratitude to the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu Dr BN Tripathi for facilitating this initiative aimed at youth empowerment. NCC is playing a pivotal role as an interface in equipping cadets with essential skills , entrepreneur acumen and environmental awareness as part of its aim of producing an organised ,trained and motivated youth which is future ready and is able to negotiate contemporary challenges with ease.
