Rehabilitation Center Visit Enriches Psychology Students’ Learning

The School of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSSH) of MIER College of Education organized a visit to the Rehabilitation Centre, (Mashwara Drug Deaddiction Centre) in Purkhoo for its four-year undergraduate honours Semester IV students, along with Dr. Priya Choudhary and Ms. Aayushi Grover, Assistant Professors, MIER College of Education.
Ms. Pallavi Singh serves as the project director of the J&K Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses (JKSPYM), overseeing a rehabilitation centre currently catering to 15 patients undergoing counseling and therapy sessions. During a visit to the centre, psychology students engaged with patients, gaining insights into addiction struggles. Led by Ms. Kimi Padhiar from SLC, Jammu & Kashmir, with assistance from counselors Ms. Rudrakshri and Ms. Akshi Misri from IRCA, the visit provided practical experience and a unique perspective on psychological interventions in rehabilitation process. The centre offers a wide array of services, encompassing counseling, therapy, and rehabilitation for those grappling with substance abuse disorders. Renowned for its holistic approach, the Rehabili-tation Centre prioritizes comprehensive care to foster patients’ recovery and overall wellness. The staff’s unwavering dedication and the centre’s positive ambiance observed during the visit underscored a nurturing environment vital for individuals undergoing substance abuse rehabilitation. Prof Adit Gupta, Director and Principal MIER College of Education said that the visit provided an invaluable learning experience for the students, who were able to observe and engage with various therapeutic and counseling sessions. It bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, which enriched their academic journey and reinforced their commitment to pursuing careers in psychology and mental health.
