The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre celebrated the World Water Day on 22nd March 2024 with theme“Water for Peace”, the event was attended by Engineers from various Departments, Organiz-ations and Senior Engineers along with Members of the Committee of IEI, Jammu Local Centre.
On this occasion, Sh. Ramesh Kumar, IAS, Divisional, Commissi-oner, Jammu was Chief Guest & Sh. Hamesh Manchanda, Chief Engineer, Jal Shakti (PHE) Department, Jammu was the Guest of Honour, and Prof. (Dr.) Bhawna Sharma, Chairman, IEI Jammu Centre, Er. Sachin Tickoo, Honorary Secretary, IEI Jammu were among distinguished audience in attendance . At the outset, Prof. (Dr.) Bhawna Sharma, FIE; said water has the power to either foster peace or ignite conflict. When water is scarce, polluted, or access is unequal, tensions can escalate between communities and nations. Public health, prosperity, food systems, energy, economic productivity, and environmental integrity all hinge on a well-managed water cycle. She appealed to everyone to take action and said that all of us can make a difference by changing the way we use, consume and manage water in our lives.
While speaking on the occasion Sachin Tickoo, MIE, Honorary Secretary said when we cooperate on water, we create a positive ripple effect – fostering harmony, generating prosperity and building resilience to shared challenges. We must act upon the realization that water is not only a resource to be used and competed over – it is a human right, intrinsic to every aspect of life. This World Water Day, we all need to unite around water and use water for peace, laying the foundations of a more stable and prosperous tomorrow.
Sh. Ramesh Kumar, IAS, Divisional, Commissioner, Jammu lauded the role of the Institution for its unwavering commitment towards the goal of spreading awareness on water conservation and making all endeavours towards sensitizing the society at all large in J&K towards larger goal of sustainable development.
During the seminar, Er. P. K. Nanda,FIE, Er. Ajay Sharma, FIE; Er. Sumil Goyal, MIE; Er. Ranjeev Sawheny,MIE; Er. Prabjot Singh Gandhi,AMIE; Er. Lovneesh Talwar, HOD, YCET; Er. Akash Dusgotra,AMIE and Er. Anil Kumar,AMIE presented their papers highlighting the need to save water for peaceful co-existence.
Er. Sachin Tickoo, MIE, Honorary Secretary conducted the proceedings of the event, and presented the Vote of Thanks to the august gathering and media personnel for their active participation. .
