Central University of Jammu celebrates Social Work Day 2024

The Department of Social Work at Central University of Jammu celebrated World Social Work Day 2024, commemorating the global efforts in promoting social justice and societal well-being. This year’s theme, ‘Buen Vivir: Shared Future for Transformative Change’, resonated deeply with the mission of the department to foster positive change within communities.
The day-long event showcased a myriad of talents and creativity through various competitions including painting, rangoli, on-spot photography, talent show, dance, poetry singing, and debate. Spearheaded by Mr. Jaspreet Singh and coordinated by Ms. Khalida BI, Research Scholars from the Department of Social Work, Central University of Jammu, the event captivated participants and spectators alike.
Ms. Sunita, Head of the Department of Social Work at Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Govt. College for Women and Alumni from the Department of Social Work, Central University of Jammu, graced the occasion as the guest of honor.
A pivotal highlight of the event was the panel discussion on the theme “Role of Professional Social Worker: Shared Future for Transformative Change,” chaired by Dr. Nancy Mengi, Head of the Department of Social Work, Central University of Jammu. The panellists, Dr. Ranvir Singh, Dr. Bhat Iqbal Majeed, Mr. Fateh Lal Bheel, and Ms. Sunita Bhagat, delved into diverse aspects of social work, ranging from the genesis of the Buen Vivir, social inclusivity and professional social worker’s essential qualities to their pivotal role in societal upliftment.
Dr. Ranvir Singh shed light on the genesis of the Buen Vivir, emphasizing the importance of collective action and community empowerment in fostering transformative change. Dr. Bhat Iqbal passionately discussed the imperative of inclusivity in society, advocating for policies and practices that uphold the rights and dignity of all individuals, especially marginalized communities.Mr. Fateh Lal articulated the essential qualities that social workers need to excel in their professional lives, emphasizing empathy, resilience, and a commitment to social justice. Ms. Sunita Bhagat underscored the pivotal role of social workers in the upliftment of society, highlighting their contributions to addressing pressing social issues and promoting sustainable development.
The culmination of the event witnessed the recognition of outstanding participants with gifts and certificates, acknowledging their talent and dedication. Dr. Bhat Iqball Majeed concluded the event with heartfelt words of gratitude, expressing appreciation to all attendees for their enthusiastic participation and unwavering support.
