In a significant move towards addressing the long pending demands of the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community, a delegation led by S. Gurinder Pal Singh ‘Billa’, National Coordinator OBC Department AICC, Incharge J&K, visited the Congress headquarters Jammu today for an introductory session along with S. Tarlok Singh Bajwa State Vice President JKPCC, Sh. Bhushan Dogra State Secretary JKPCC.
The meeting was presided over by Chairman OBC Department, JKPCC Madan Lal Chalotra, served as a platform to reaffirm the commitment to addressing the concerns and aspirations of the OBC community within Jammu and Kashmir’s political landscape. Gurinder Pal Singh emphasized key issues affecting the OBC community and rallied support for their cause within the political arena. The primary focus of the visit was to highlight the critical demands of the OBC community, including the implementation of a 27% reservation quota in educational institutions, government jobs, and public life. This reservation aims to provide equitable opportunities and representation to individuals facing historical socio-economic disadvantages and marginalization.
Additionally, the delegation advocated for the conduct of a comprehensive Caste Census to gather accurate data on the demographic composition and socio-economic status of various caste groups, essential for devising targeted policies to address specific needs and challenges faced by OBCs. Political OBC reservation was also underscored as a crucial aspect for empowering OBC leaders and ensuring their active participation in the political process, from panchayat to parliamentary elections. At the conclusion of the meeting, Madan Lal Chalotra expressed gratitude to Rahul Gandhi for his leadership in uniting marginalized sections of society and focusing on unresolved issues since the Mandal Commission. Chalotra highlighted the importance of advocating for the rights and welfare of marginalized groups and emphasized the commitment of the OBC community to work alongside the Congress party for meaningful progress and social justice. The session concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and determination to advocate for substantive reforms that empower the OBC community and ensure their inclusion in all spheres of society.
