Advocate Purnima Sharma, Spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jammu and Kashmir and former Deputy Mayor, enthusiastically welcomed the recent announcement regarding the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) by the government. In a statement addressed to the media today, the senior BJP leader expressed her appreciation for what she termed as a humanitarian step taken by the BJP-led central government. She emphasized that this move would greatly alleviate the suffering of Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, and other minorities who have endured persecution in Muslim-majority countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh.
Sharma noted that although the law was passed four years ago, its implementation at this juncture is a testament to the government’s commitment to upholding the rights and dignity of persecuted minorities. She praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP for their steadfast dedication to this cause, which she believes will enhance India’s standing on the global stage.
The BJP Spokesperson emphasized that the implementation of the CAA was crucial for India’s aspiration to become a Vishwa Guru (world leader), as it addresses the humanitarian concerns of Indian-origin minorities residing in other countries, particularly in Muslim-majority nations like Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
Expressing her disappointment with opposition parties and certain Muslim clerics for their opposition to the CAA, Sharma accused them of creating unnecessary controversy. She stressed that the CAA does not discriminate against Muslims and is solely aimed at providing relief to persecuted non-Muslim minorities from neighboring countries. She reiterated that Muslims have not faced persecution in Islamic countries and, therefore, there is no basis for them to be included in the provisions of the CAA.
Sharma reassured that the CAA does not in any way jeopardize the citizenship rights of Muslims residing in India. She condemned politically motivated individuals for spreading misinformation among the Muslim community, urging them to remain vigilant against attempts to sow communal discord.
Furthermore, Sharma highlighted the positive impact of the CAA on the Sikh community, whose population has dwindled due to forced conversions in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. She emphasized that the implementation of the CAA would provide much-needed relief to Sikhs and other persecuted minorities, allowing them to live with dignity and security in India.
In conclusion, Advocate Purnima Sharma reiterated her support for the CAA, emphasizing its humanitarian significance and its role in safeguarding the rights of persecuted minorities. She urged all stakeholders to support this landmark legislation for the greater good of India and its diverse population.
