In a touching tribute to the spirit of International Women’s Day, the Shrimati Shanti Gupta Centre for Women’s Studies (SSGCWS) and its Gender Champions Club orchestrated a heartfelt nukkardnatak in Domana, Jammu, aligning with the U.N. theme “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.” This initiative aimed to spotlight the importance of education, vocational training, and opportunities for women and girls, as outlined in various government schemes. A team comprising 24 club members and two esteemed faculty members, Dr. Bharti Tandon, Convener of SSGCWS, and Mrs. Jyoti Sharma, a member of SSGCWS, ventured into the adopted village to stage the nukkardnatak. Through captivating performances, the actors depicted narratives of resilience, courage, and the unwavering determination of women. The play served as a poignant reminder of the indispensable role women play in societal advancement, emphasizing the imperative to invest in their empowerment, employment, and entrepreneurial ventures.
The nukkardnatak unfolded like a vibrant tapestry, weaving together stories that resonated with the audience, regardless of age or gender. The compelling performances sparked a sense of introspection and ignited conversations about the transformative power of investing in women’s well-being and economic independence. It underscored that supporting women is not only a moral obligation but also a strategic imperative for fostering holistic community development.
As the applause reverberated through the village, a palpable sense of solidarity permeated the air, with residents pledging to champion the cause of women’s empowerment. Club members distributed informative pamphlets elucidating various government schemes, including the Tejeswani Scheme, Indira Gandhi Scholarship Scheme, and the Pragati Scheme, while engaging in meaningful dialogues to address queries and concerns.
The event culminated with a collective commitment to cultivate an environment conducive to women’s growth and prosperity, recognizing that their empowerment serves as a catalyst for the village’s sustainable progress. Dr. Adit Gupta, Director and Principal of MIER College of Education, lauded the Centre’s endeavors, affirming that the immersive celebration of International Women’s Day left an indelible mark on the villagers, inspiring them to embark on transformative journeys, including start-up initiatives and entrepreneurial ventures.
The entire initiative was orchestrated under the adept leadership of Mrs. Rupa Gupta, Jt. Director of MIER and Director of the Centre for Women’s Studies, whose visionary guidance propelled the event towards its resounding success. Through collective action and unwavering commitment, the celebration of International Women’s Day in Domana, Jammu, echoed a resounding call for gender equality, social justice, and inclusive progress.
