Kathua Campus, JU organizes lecture cum workshop on “Understanding Poetry: The genre and the inspiration”

The Department of English, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu organised an expert lecture cum workshop titled “Understanding Poetry: The Genre and The Inspiration”, for the students of 2nd and 4th semester, under the convenership of Prof. Arvind Jasrotia, Rector, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu. The lecture cum workshop aimed to provide attendees with insights into the nuances of poetry, techniques for analysing poetic works and strategies for enhancing their appreciation for this art form. In his message to the students, Prof. Arvind Jasrotia encouraged students to make the most of this opportunity to enhance their understanding of poetry and to keep their minds open and their curiosity alive.
The resource person for the guest lecture was Dr. Garima Gupta, Associate Professor in Department of English, University of Jammu and presently heading the Department of Journalism and Media Studies. She has participated in numerous national and international conferences both in India and abroad and also published extensively on various topics in national and international journals and anthologies. She was also a recipient of Indira Gandhi women Achiever’s Award by the India International Friendship Society in 2010. The welcome address was given by Dr. Nomita Sharma, Lecturer, Department of English. The lecture was attended by students of Semester 2nd and 4th, Department of English; faculty members and students of UIET, Kathua Campus and faculty members of Department of MBA. The resource person started the session by guiding the students and participants on a journey through the world of poetry, unravelling its mysteries and uncovering its beauty. From elucidating poetic devices, to elaborating the difference between poem and poetry, to providing invaluable tools for exploring and appreciating poetry in all its forms, overall, it was an engaging and interactive session which not only encouraged active participation but also provided students with a platform to apply their knowledge as they were given worksheets to practice the knowledge imparted during the session. The interactive learning experiences are invaluable for students as they foster a deeper understanding and retention of the subject matter.
The students of the Department of English also got a chance to recite their poetic creations and received invaluable insights from the resource person. The formal vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Meenakshi Thakur, Lecturer, Department of English.
