NEW DELHI, Feb 21
Apple has warned users against putting their iPhones in a bag of rice when they get wet.
“Don’t put your iPhone in a bag of rice. Doing so could allow small particles of rice to damage your iPhone,” reads a support document released by Apple.
Other warnings issued by Apple include: “Don’t dry your iPhone using an external heat source or compressed air.” and “Don’t insert a foreign object, such as a cotton bud or a paper towel, into the connector.”
When a Lightning or USB-C cable or an accessory is connected the latest versions of iPhone, it can warn the user in case there’s liquid in the connector or on the cable or accessory.
In a bid the protect the iPhone, the charging and accessory connection will be unavailable until the connector, cable ends and the accessory are dried.
Here’s what to do instead
Apples says users should tap the iPhone gently against their hand with the connector facing down to remove excess liquid. Following this, the user should leave the iPhone in a dry area with some airflow.
They can try charging the iPhone 30 minutes later. However, if the alert shows up again, it might be becasue there is still water in the connector or under the cable pins.
In that case, users should leave the iPhone in a dry place with some airflow for up to 24 hours. If it still doesn’t get charged, unplug the cable as well as the adapter before connecting again.
And if the alert keeps showing every time a certain cable or accessory, it might be damaged. In this case, users are advised to contact the manufacturer. If this issue is caused by Apple Lightning or USB-C cable, the user should contact Apple Support.
