Taranjit Singh Tony, General Secretary Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) and District Development Council (DDC) Member Suchetgarh has asserted that the village wise demonstration of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) by the Election Commission of India (ECI) reflects utter frustration of Modi Govt that is fearing defeat in the upcoming Parliament elections. He demanded the use of ballot paper in the upcoming Parliamentary elections.
In a statement issued to media here today, the senior Congress leader said that it is an irony of this nation that despite the people openly raising voice in favour of casting votes by using ballot paper the Govt is adamant on using the EVMs in the elections. He claimed that using EVMs is not fair mode of conducting elections especially with people rejecting this process after losing trust on these machines. He alleged that the writing on ECI vehicles “Modi Ki Guarantee” clearly proves that ECI is working wholly and solely on the directions of Modi led Union Govt.
Tony said that people have lost faith in the institution of Election Commission of India as it has betrayed the people’s trust by not ordering voting through ballot paper. The height of the things is that the vehicles used by the ECI for demonstrating EVCs across the nation prominently display the slogan “Modi Ki Guarantee”.
Questioning the autonomous functioning of ECI, Tony said that this is the clear example of blatant murder of democracy in the World’s largest democracy. He said that the people of this nation want Guarantee of fair elections from ECI and not Modi Govt. He asserted that all the opposition parties are raising serious allegations of EVM hacking and there being still time for the elections, the ECI should announce the holding of these upcoming Parliamentary elections through the medium of using ballot paper.
