Apni Party Spokesperson, Khushboo Bhagat today expressed the failure of the police to curb the increasing theft incidents in Kathua, and its villages.
“The theft incidents have increased not only in town, but in villages and it has spread fear among the residents. It appears, the robbers have no fear of police, or the police inaction has given them encouragement to break into shops, and houses with arms,” said Bhagat in a statement issued to the press.
Demanding stringent action against the thieves, the Party spokesperson said that the police should constitute special teams to investigate the theft incidents committed by the highly skilled robbers who come with automatic cutters, and arms without any fear of law and order.
“The law-and-order situation in Kathua appears to be in control, but the people know that they have to protect themselves by constituting Mohalla committees because they have lost faith in police and its alertness,” she said.
She further stated that the SSP Kathua, DIG Samba Range and Director General of J&K Police should personally monitor the situation so that the accountability can be fixed on the irresponsible officers and thieves can be arrested and booked under Public Safety Act (PSA).
“These incidents have caused uneasiness among the people, and they are compelled to keep an eye on their respective areas in the wake of police’s failure to curb such incidents,” she added.
She observed that these incidents have increased especially because of unemployment and drug addiction in the district bordering Punjab.
“The crime is liked with drugs and unemployment. Therefore, the police and concerned authorities should investigate and accordingly, frame a policy to handle these things in order to deal with the theft cases,” she added.
