Says heaps of garbage; damaged lanes, drains dent Smart City Project

DOGRA HERALD BUREAU
JAMMU, Jan 31
Apni Party Provincial President, Jammu, and Former Minister, S. Manjit Singh today conducted a tour of Nanak Nagar falling under Bahu Constituency in District Jammu.
As per the press release, the Former Minister was accompanied by other Party leaders from Jammu.
During the tour, he was accompanied by large numbers of local people who showed the damaged lanes and choked drains in their locality at sector 6 in Nanak Nagar.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the work being done by the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), the locals raised issues of slow pace of development and poor cleanliness in their locality.
While speaking on the occasion, Manjit Singh assured them that he would highlight their issues before the concerned authorities so that the pending / damaged work is completed within a stipulated time frame.
The Former Minister said that it was unfortunate to see the heaps of garbage on the roadside and unclean lanes.
“The JMC claims that they have converted Jammu into a Smart City with no flaws, but one can witness that the lanes here in Nanak Nagar’s sector 6 are in shabby condition and the scattered garbage,” he said.
He said that similar issues were raised by the people in other areas of Jammu Municipal limits where the authorities which have responsibility to keep the city and its residential areas clean and provide basic amenities have failed completely.
He further pointed towards the damaged electric poles and mounted live wires on them in sector number 6 where the residents were worried for their lives, especially children.
“These electric poles should be replaced immediately by Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) with new poles and the live wires should also be replaced in the wake of visible threat to the lives of the residents,” he added.
Although some development can be seen in some of the areas, he said, it appears the developmental projects are implemented in a selective manner to appease a political party and ignore the larger chunk of population.
Following the tour, Manjit Singh chaired a meeting with the people including the Party leaders to discuss the developmental and other issues.
He stated further that the people assured that they would support the Party in upcoming elections, and its candidate because they feel betrayed by the other traditional political parties who used them as vote banks and did nothing for them.
“The failure of political representatives has brought misery for the people of Jammu. The people are understood, and they know who to support and who to ignore in the coming assembly and parliamentary elections,” he said, while denouncing the divisive policies to gain votes by exploiting the people emotionally in both the regions.
Prominent among those who were present on the occasion include Provincial Vice President, Women Wing, Neelam Gupta, Senior Vice President, Jammu Urban, Vaibhav Mattoo, District President Minority Wing, Jammu, Dalbir Singh, Provincial Secretary Women Wing, Sheetal Sharma, Provincial General Secretary, Legal Cell, Kuldeep Sudan, District Secretary Jammu Urban, Vishal Jotshi, Provincial General Secretary, Transport Union, Yash Chowdhury, Incharge Ward Number 43, Ravinder Kour and others.
