Javaid Rahi’s book on Gandhi ji released in Gujarat

Mahatma Gandhi’s fourth-generation daughter, Ms. Sonal Parikh released Dr. Javaid Rahi’s book , ‘Mahatma Gandhi Gi Kahani – Tasweraan Gi Zabani,’ a Gojri rendition of Sarla Manjumdar’s original Gujarati book, ‘Chitarkatha’ at the Kanoria Art Centre, Ahmedabad here today. Organized by the Gandhi Chitarkhatha Privar- Gujarat , the event witnessed a gathering of prominent personalities, including Gujarati writers, artists, and intellectuals. The presidium featured esteemed figures including Prof. Pankaj Joshi, renowned artists Anil Relia, Pranav Deesai, Tarak Oza, and Bhushan Oza.
During his address, Dr. Javaid Rahi expressed his profound gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to a book series already available in 18 languages across India. He highlighted the spiritual journey he underwent while translating the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. Dr. Rahi, said as head of Gojri Language at the J&K Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages, he supervised the translation of Mahatma Gandhi’s autobiography into Gojri by Ch. Hassan Parwaz in 2010.
Ms. Sonal Parikh, in her presidential address, commended Dr. Javaid Rahi for his efforts in translating Gandhi Ji’s teachings for the Gujjar tribe, spanning across 12 states in India. She also shared insights into the writings and paintings of Sarla Manjumdar (1911-2001), who resided at the Sabarmati Ashram for an extended period, penning her experiences with the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.
The event showcased the rich cultural exchange between languages and regions in India, reinforcing the importance of preserving and sharing the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi. Dr. Javaid Rahi’s contribution in bringing Gandhi Ji’s teachings to the Gojri-speaking population adds another layer to the diverse tapestry of the nation’s linguistic and cultural heritage.
