Former Member Parliament (Rajya Sabha) & Ex State President Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu & Kashmir Shamsher Singh Manhas said that the new voters in the age group of 18-25 years plays a pivotal role in democratic process of India. He was addressing “NavMatdata Sammelan” organised in Jammu North Assembly Constituency on the eve of National Voter’s Day.
While addressing the people particularly the youth Manhas said that National Voter’s Day (NVD) is an annual celebration observed nationwide on January 25th , highlighting the significance of each vote in a democratic society. This day serves as a tribute to the essence of democracy, outlining the vital role played by voters in shaping the nation’s destiny, he added
While elaborating the Former Member Parliament said this day was created to encourage people , especially young individuals, to actively participate in elections. The main goal is to educate voters, create awareness, and engage in outreach activities. The Election Commission wants to emphasize the significance of voting in a democratic system. Voting holds a crucial role in a democratic society as it provides the largest platform for citizens to directly engage in choosing their leaders.
Manhas applauded the role of Election Commission of India (ECI) for the initiatives for reaching out to voters in the remotest corner to enroll their names in the electoral roll and to encourage them to exercise the “Right to Vote”.
Manhas complemented ECI for the stellar role played by it for strengthening the Indian democracy . He lauded the courage, commitment and foresight shown by successive Commissions for conduct of free & fair elections and said that all should trust and believe the sanctity of the election process.
Those who were present on the occasion were Ex District President Sukhdev Singh Jamwal, Mandal Presidents Rakesh Singh, Suresh Khajuria, Ravish Mengi, District President BJYM Rajat Manhas, Dushyant Chib & Shamsher Prajapati.
