DOGRA HERALD BUREAU
JAMMU, Dec 26
Taranjit Singh Tony, the General Secretary of J&K Pradesh Congress Committee and District Development Council (DDC) Suchetgarh, has voiced serious concerns over the execution of development works in Block Suchetgarh. The seasoned Congress leader, while overseeing the commencement of a road project’s blacktopping in the region, underscored issues related to the use of poor-quality and substandard materials in various developmental projects.
Expressing dismay, Tony pointed out the apparent lack of concern from the Chief Engineer’s office in ensuring the quality of materials employed in these crucial projects. He emphasized that this negligence poses a serious threat to construction standards, deeming it unacceptable. The senior leader raised alarms about intentional delays in initiating development works, placing the blame squarely on contractors. According to Tony, these delays are impeding the progress of vital infrastructure development in the region.
Highlighting the lapse in adherence to required quality and ratios by many contractors, Tony called for immediate attention to address these issues. To tackle the situation, he stressed the urgent need for a vigilance team to inspect construction quality and monitor work progress in Suchetgarh. Proposing a collaborative approach, Tony suggested that the quality checks should be conducted by the vigilance team in the presence of the concerned member of the District Development Council (DDC).
In a bid to ensure accountability, Tony appealed to the Chief Engineer and the Commissioner Secretary to conduct surprise inspections in Suchetgarh. These inspections, he asserted, would serve the dual purpose of verifying construction work against departmental standards and taking stern action against contractors found using substandard materials.
Furthermore, Tony proposed a stringent measure to deter such practices in the future. He called for the blacklisting of contractors found guilty of compromising on quality. According to him, this measure would not only serve as a punitive action but also act as a deterrent, compelling adherence to quality standards in upcoming projects.
Taranjit Singh Tony’s proactive stance on the quality of construction materials and the timely execution of development works reflects his commitment to ensuring the overall progress and well-being of the Suchetgarh region. His proposals for vigilance inspections and contractor blacklisting aim to instill a culture of accountability and adherence to high construction standards in the pursuit of sustainable and impactful development.
