In a remarkable display of athletic talent, Simar Kaur, a student from the village of Kulkala in R.S Pura region, clinched the gold medal in the under-14 long jump category at the Athletics Championship. The event was organized by the District Amateur Jammu Athletes Association and hosted by Jammu University.
It is noteworthy that the competition, which saw participation from athletes across the district, was a stage where Simar Kaur emerged victorious, securing the gold medal with her exceptional performance. Following her achievement, a special ceremony was organized on Monday by the local Panchayat to honor Simar Kaur, uplifting her spirit and acknowledging her success.
Sarpanch Gurdeep Singh Saini, who is also the father of Simar Kaur, expressed his joy over his daughter’s accomplishment. He proudly stated that Simar’s victory at the district level not only elevates the name of their Panchayat but is also a source of inspiration for other girls in the area who are balancing education and sports.
He further added that efforts are being made to promote sports within the Panchayat under the ‘Khelo India’ initiative.
Simar Kaur’s mother, Rajvinder Kaur, also shared her happiness, noting that her daughter’s triumph in winning the gold medal has brightened the name of their school and region.
She emphasized that Simar’s achievement is a testament to the fact that there is no difference between a daughter and a son.
Simar Kaur, a class 8th student of Jammu Sanskriti School, remarked that she had set her mind on excelling in the competition and attributed her success to the blessings and hard work.
She expressed her determination to continue her sports activities and aims to participate in national and international level competitions to bring further laurels to Jammu and Kashmir and her Panchayat.
The felicitation ceremony was attended by notable figures including Sardar Harjinder Singh and Darshan Singh among other dignitaries.
