On the occasion of 20th Dogri Manyata Diwas on 22 December, Th. Gulchain Singh Charak, President Dogra Sadar Sabha and former Cabinet Minister of J&K has profusely congratulated the Dogra fraternity and the lovers of Dogra culture, heritage and language, spread all over the world.
In this connection, he recalled the sustained struggle of the DSS and other social, cultural, religious and political organisations, luminaries of Dogri language and esteemed members of civil society of Jammu and Kashmir, which had resulted in getting the Dogri language included in the 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution.
He was speaking to a large gathering of distinguished personalities including members of the J&K Ex-services League, educationists, literary icons, artists, poets, singers, men, women and children here today on the occasion, at the DSS Bhawan.
Paying glowing tributes to those who struggled and supported this dear cause of the Dogras and enabled realisation of this day, speaker after speaker highlighted the crucial role that the mother tongue plays in developing one’s self-confidence, pride and intellect, the rate of his or her educational success is higher than someone who is taught in a medium other than his/her mother tongue.
In this connection, the speakers welcomed the New Education Policy and the government’s decision to teach all subjects in mother tongue.
Prominent speakers who expressed their views on the occasion included Ravi Kant Sharma Senior Annnouncer Akashwani Jammu, G.A Khwaja Retd. D.C Eminent Dogri singers who recited their poems included Chhaju Singh Katal & Subedar Major (Retd) Aryan Malhotra.
Highlight of the celebrations was the signing of an MOU between Dogra Group of Colleges Viz Dogra College of Education, Dogra Law College & Dogra Degree College Bari Brahmna and JK Ex Services League regarding celebration of important Days of Dogra Heroes and for promotion & preservation of values of Patriotism & brotherhood among the people of duggar land.
Speaking on the occasion Lt. Gen. R K Sharma (Retd) AVSM thanked DSS J&K for arranging such MOU between the League & Dogra Group of Colleges & assured the public that all necessary steps for achieving the goals mentioned in MOU will be taken in collaboration with the youth of the colleges.
A special appeal was made to the Lieutenant Governor, J&K, Manoj Sinha to introduce Dogri language in all schools and colleges, a report that Dogri subject has been excluded from choice of subjects in some educational Institution in the region including MAM College, Jammu was noted with awe. Participants expressed the hope that Dogri language subject will be retained in the said Institutions.
The students from the Dogra Degree College who presented the Dogri songs & poems were Priya, Anamika, Rahul, Meenal & Bhavya. Arushi compered the programme.
In a unanimous appeal to all Dogras, the Dogra Sadar Sabha has impressed upon all the parents and elder ones in the society to speak to their children and younger generations in their mother tongue Dogri, at homes and even when outdoors, enlightening the new generation about importance and bliss of their beautiful, rich and gracious mother tongue.
