Three-day J&K Silambam Championship concludes

The three-day J&K Silambam Championship concluded in a grand ceremony at Lower Roop Nagar Jammu North Assembly Segment, today.
Over 385 enthusiastic students from across various districts participated in the event, showcasing their agility and skill in the ancient Indian martial art.
Udhay Bhanu Chib, former President of the J&K Pradesh Youth Congress, graced the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest. He was joined by Navjot Singh and Bhanu Partap Singh as Guests of Honour.
The championship witnessed intense competition, with participants vying for top honours in various categories. Jammu district emerged victorious, securing the coveted Winner’s Trophy. Pulwama and Samba districts followed close behind, claiming the 1st Runner-up and 2nd Runner-up positions respectively. Poonch district was awarded the Discipline Trophy for its exemplary sportsmanship and commitment to fair play.
In his address, Udhay Bhanu Chib commended the participants for their dedication and passion for Silambam. He lauded the organizers for their efforts in promoting this rich cultural heritage and providing a platform for young talents to showcase their abilities. He emphasized the importance of sports in fostering discipline, teamwork, and a spirit of healthy competition, particularly among the youth.
Navjot Singh and Bhanu Partap Singh also spoke on the occasion, highlighting the significance of Silambam in promoting cultural awareness and physical fitness. They encouraged the participants to continue honing their skills and strive for excellence in the future.
Kaka Ram, General Secretary of the J&K Silambam Association, underlined the importance of such championships in nurturing young talent and preserving the rich legacy of Silambam.
In his concluding remarks, Birinder Singh, President of the Association, presented a heartfelt vote of thanks to everyone who contributed to the championship’s smooth execution. He urged the budding Silambam players to persevere in their training and embrace the values of sportsmanship and discipline.
The closing ceremony culminated in a vibrant cultural performance, showcasing the diverse traditions of the region. The event concluded on a high note, leaving a lasting impression on all the participants and spectators.
