JAMMU, Dec 14
Adv Purnima Sharma, the articulate spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jammu & Kashmir and former Deputy Mayor of Jammu, has expressed her enthusiastic support for the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Second Amendment) Bill.
This legislative measure, which mandates a 33 percent reservation for women in the Union Territory’s Legislative Assembly, has been hailed by Sharma as a landmark development in the realm of women’s empowerment.
In her media statement, Sharma underscored the widespread approval and positive reception that this bill has garnered from the people of Jammu and Kashmir. She attributed this milestone to the unwavering commitment of the central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, towards uplifting and empowering women in the region. Sharma anticipates that the implementation of this legislation will significantly contribute to addressing the multifaceted issues and concerns faced by women in the Union Territory.
Taking a critical stance, Purnima Sharma directed her disapproval towards the successive governments led by the Congress, accusing them of systematically depriving women of opportunities and rights. She contrasted this with the present government’s approach, asserting that under the twin tenure of Prime Minister Modi, women have been accorded due respect and provided with numerous opportunities for growth and participation.
Sharma’s statement emphasizes the transformative potential of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Second Amendment) Bill. Beyond merely being a legal provision, she sees it as a catalyst for positive change, fostering greater representation and participation of women in the legislative assembly. Her optimism is rooted in the belief that women will now have a more influential role in the decision-making processes that shape the destiny of the Union Territory.
It is noteworthy that the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Second Amendment) Bill is a response to the evolving political landscape following the enactment of the Constitution (One Hundred and Sixth Amendment) Act, 2023. By introducing reserved seats for women, the bill aims to create a more inclusive and gender-balanced political environment, aligning with broader aspirations for social justice and equality in Jammu and Kashmir. Purnima Sharma’s vocal endorsement reflects not only the party’s stance but also a broader sentiment in favor of progressive and inclusive governance in the Union Territory.
