MIER organises cultural fest to commemorate International Disability Day

The Department of Special Education at MIER College, in collaboration with Inclusive School Model Academy, organized a vibrant cultural fest to commemorate International Disability Day. The event, themed “United in Action to Rescue and Achieve the SDGs for, with, and by Persons with Disabilities,” brought together a diverse audience, including esteemed guests, parents of children with special needs, faculty members, and students from MIER College and Inclusive School.
Dr. Renu Gupta, Chairperson of MIER, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, joined by Prof. Adit Gupta, Director MIER and Principal MIER College, Mrs. Rupa Gupta, Jt. Director MIER, Mr. Pramod Kumar Srivastava, Principal Model Academy School, Mr. J.K. Dhiman, Vice-Principal, Dr. Rohnika Sharma, Head School of Education, Dr. Monika Bajaj, Head School of Social Science and Humanities, Prof. Nishta Rana, Deputy Head School of Education and Mr. C.L. Jangra, Incharge Inclusive School.
The event commenced with a warm welcome extended by Ms. ShivaniChib, a student from B.Ed. Special Semester III. A video showcasing various academic activities and developmental milestones of students was narrated by Prof. Rohnika Sharma. A motivational video highlighting the remarkable abilities of children with special needs filled the audience with pride and happiness.
The Inclusive School students captivated everyone with an ethnic dress walk, showcasing the diversity and creativity within the inclusive community. Mr. NishantBhagat, a student from Inclusive School, delivered a moving speech on World Disability Day, leaving a profound impact on the audience.
The cultural extravaganza continued with an entrancing instrumental song and a group dance performance by the students of the Inclusive School. B.Ed. Special Education students took the stage with a skit emphasizing the crucial role of special educators in schools and raising awareness about special education.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Renu Gupta congratulated the special educators and Inclusive School students for their hard work in organizing an engaging event. She expressed gratitude to the parents for their encouragement, support, and faith in the management. Dr. Gupta emphasized the need to prioritize the human being before considering their impairment, acknowledging the progress made in inclusive education while recognizing there is more work to be done.
The programme concluded with an enthralling pair dance performance, where B.Ed. Special Education students and students from Inclusive School danced in harmony, filling the air with excitement and joy. Ms. Monika Bhau, a B.Ed. Special Semester III student, delivered a formal vote of thanks, expressing appreciation for the collaborative effort that made the event a success.
Few students of Inclusive school also took part in sports and fun activities organised by Army Public School, Jammu Cantt under Jammu cluster and schools under the education hub of learning. They were honoured with trophies and certificates for their special performances.
Mrs. Jyoti Sharma, Assistant Prof. at the School of Education, MIER College, efficiently conducted the program, ensuring a seamless and memorable celebration of International Disability Day.
