Dogra Degree College celebrates International Year on Millets 2023

In recognition of the importance of millets as a nutritious and sustainable food source, the United Nations General Assembly has declared 2023 as the International Year of Millets. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the nutritional and ecological benefits of millets and promote their consumption worldwide.
As a part of the celebration The NCC unit of Dogra Degree College in collaboration with NCC unit of Dogra Law College Bari Brahmna organised awareness programme on International year on millets 2023 on 11th December 2023.
The NCC cadets of both the colleges, Cadets from Rich Harvest School, Bari Brahmana presented the power point presentation to aware youth about the goodness of millet, its mammoth potential to generate livelihoods, increase farmers’ income and ensure food & nutritional security all over the world.
The initiative hopes to promote sustainable farming practices, celebrate the cultural significance of millets, and encourage their consumption as a healthy and justifiable alternative to other food grains. Millets are known for their resilience in harsh conditions and are rich in nutrients, making them an important source of nourishment for millions of people.
The students delivered input talks in their respective ppts and shared the key points with the students such as the importance of millets, value of a healthy balanced diet, malnutrition and its impact on society, healthy food habits and harmful effects of junk food.
Students reflected upon the severity of prevailing diseases such as diabetes and cancer.
The consequences of consuming junk food, such as hormonal changes in males and females leading to early miscarriages in females, diabetes, cancer and early menstruation in girls, were also discussed. Some recipes related to millets were also introduced.
Students also suggest introducing and promoting millet based dishes in their canteen and hostel mess menu viz. Raagi dosa, bhakri, thalipetth, nachani chips.
The activity was organised under the banner of Special Campaign: IYOM (2023).
Dr. Bela Thakur Principal Dogra Degree College appreciated the efforts of NCC units of both the colleges. Mr Mohit Sharma CTO/ANO, Rich Harvest School was also there as an active organiser from the NCC Unit of Rich Harvest School.
The whole programme was well-coordinated under the able guidance of Gulshan Sharma CTO/ANO, DDC with full cooperation from Om Prakash, CTO, DLC, Mr Vishal Singh, Ravinder Rao, Sonia Gupta, Rinkal Gupta.
The programme was well conducted by Priyanka Charak, student BBA Sem 3rd DDC. The vote of thanks proposed by Simran Thakur, Faculty in Arts.
