WILDLIFE CONSERVATION DAY: Dogra Degree College shows documentary ‘The Elephant Whisperers’

BARI BRAHMANA, Dec 4: Dogra Degree College, Bari Brahmana, Samba celebrated “Wildlife Conservation Day” while covering the theme of this year’s Wildlife Conservation Day i.e. “Partnerships for Wildlife Conservation” on 04th December, 2023.
This year Dogra Degree College showed the documentary “The Elephant Whisperers” to the students of Ist semester of Dogra Degree College under the supervision of Palak Gupta, Convener of Eco-Warriors Club.
Dr. Bela Thakur, Principal Dogra Degree College appreciated the efforts of the Eco-Warrior Club, DCC who took it as a great initiative to celebrate such an important day in this way by showing a documentary “The Elephant Whisperers” which is the only Oscar winning short movie from India.
Palak Gupta, Convener, Eco-Warrior Club, DDC presented the welcome address and also made students awared of the great importance of this very day. This day is being marked as an important step towards conserving and protecting the decreasing numbers of wildlife species across the globe. Wildlife plays an important role in balancing the environment.
This global occasion provides everyone with the opportunity to learn more about wildlife conservation and to be part of the solution to wildlife crime, She added.
The film is not just a heart-touching story of a bond between animals and human and co-existence, but also showcases Indian culture and tradition of environment conservation. The short film sends a clear message about the urgent need for convergence between government departments to protect our national heritage animal and implement the actionable and progressive framework that the task force experts prescribed.
The main motive behind the celebration of this day was to encourage the students to have a soft corner in their heart regarding the wildlife and to make them understand the important of wildlife in the ecosystem and to make them realise the impact of certain man made activities like deforestation and so called industrial development which lead to habitat loss and extinction of wild species, flora & fauna.
The Vote of Thanks was presented by Ravinder Kumar, Faculty, DDC. The staff members who helped in the smooth conduct of the event were: Kanchan Dubey, MS Sonia Gupta, Aman Sharma, Rahul Gupta, Vishal Singh, and Sunil. The screening ended with the playing of the National Anthem.
