Wool and Woolen Products Export Corporation (WWPEC), Ministry of Textile Government of India has registered a whooping growth with Rs 57.49 lakh surplus amount till August 2023 in comparison to Rs 33.12 lakh during 2022-22.
This was informed by Romesh Khajuria, Chairman, speaking during the 184th meeting of the Committee of Administration (COA) at New Delhi.’
Quoting Income & Expenditure statement, the chairman said that council has recorded a surplus of Rs. 57.49 lakhs, showing a significant improvement compared to a surplus of Rs. 33.12 lakhs in the corresponding year 2021-22.
Earlier, the Chairman welcomed vice-chairman, COA members and past chairpersons. He said since last meeting of CoA, various meetings have been chaired by Minister of Commerce and Industry and Textiles, Piyush Goyal, Commerce Secretary, Textiles Secretary, Joint Secretaries, Trade Adviser and senior Officials of the Government. The Chairman said during these meetings performance of various export components were discussed and deliberations were held on issues faced by the industry and to other export related issues. The Chairman shared details about these meetings and informed that Government of India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi fixed the export target of one trillion USD by 2029-30.
He said the export target of WWPEC has been set as 2.5 billion USD which is practical and can be achieved with continuous annual export growth of about 18.5 % in this direction. He also sought suggestions from respected members and appealed to them to attend meetings/sessions at various platforms.
Furthermore Chairman Khajuria said that to promote the export of Indian Woollen Products, the Council organized participation of member-exporters in various international trade fairs and exhibitions during 2022-23 under Market Access Initiative (MAI) Scheme in France, Dubai, Sweden, USA, Italy, Morocco, Japan, Spain & UK details are mentioned in the agenda part. In addition to the successful Reverse Buyer Seller Meetings (RBSM) in New Delhi in March 2023 along with an impressive fashion show. The entire team of WWEPC including vice chairman and past chairpersons worked round the clock to make the RSBM successful. He also extended gratitude to Shubra, Trade Advisor, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India for guidance and support. She was kind enough to inaugurate the event & interacted with almost all the participants, guests and media persons, wider publicity was given to the event by the media. He also thanked the officials from the government for their support. He informed WWEPC also organized and participated in Capacity Building Programs to encourage new Entrepreneurs to pursue exports as a business and issues faced by the industry.
