Two days after she offered prayers at a Shiva temple in J&K’s Poonch, drawing criticism from some quarters, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday snubbed her critics by saying that “the issue is related to myself only and there is no need for further discussion over it”.
“We live in a country that is home to the Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb and there is no need to discuss the matter further,” she said when reporters asked about her temple visit that drew flak from some quarters.
“This issue is related to myself and there is no need for further discussion over it,” she shot back.
A video of the former J&K chief minister offering water to the Shivling inside the Navgraha temple at Mandi-Ajote on Tuesday has gone viral, drawing criticism even from the Deobandis. When asked about some Islamic scholars from Deoband in Uttar Pradesh disliking it, Mufti replied that she did not want to go into it and whether it is allowed in her religion.
“In our country, Hindus and Muslims live together and there are more Hindus offering ‘chadar’ at Muslim shrines than Muslims themselves,” she said.
