On the information of the District Special Branch (DSB) jawans, the intelligence wing of the district police, Gangyal police arrested a youth on the charge of smuggling the drug ganja. Four kg of ganja was recovered from the possession of the accused. As a result, a case under NDPS Act was registered at the Gangyal police station. Accused Sanam Deep Singh, son of Charan Singh, resident of Gadigarh, Satwari, took a sample of the recovered ganja and sent it to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for examination.
Last Sunday, DSB jawans got information that Samandeep Singh is smuggling narcotic drug ganja. He is about to bring the consignment of drugs to the Gangyal area. On this information, DSB jawans along with Gangyal police put up a naka. Police personnel in plain clothes were deployed.
In the meantime, a young man riding on a two-wheeler passed by. The police personnel signalled the youth to stop. However, instead of stopping at the block, the young man started running from there. The police personnel chased the young man and stopped him at some distance from the cow. The young man was holding a bag on his shoulder.
When the bag was seen on the shell, four packets were recovered from inside it. The narcotic ganja was found inside the packet. The youth was immediately taken into custody. He was taken to Gangyal police station for questioning.
Information is being obtained from the accused, where he had brought this consignment of drugs. According to sources, the youth has named some people during interrogation who are involved in this drug smuggling. The police are now making efforts for his arrest. Police said that the drug trade has increased in Jammu and Kashmir. Therefore, they have also stepped up their efforts to curb this in such a situation.
