J&K: Soldier Dies Under Mysterious Circumstances in Army Cantt

An army soldier posted in the military cantonment at Nagrota died due to bullet injuries under suspicious circumstances. The bullet was fired from the soldier’s service rifle. Nagrota police gathered evidence from the spot. The service rifle of the constable, from which the bullet was fired, was sent by the police to the Forensic Science Laboratory for investigation.

The post-mortem of the dead body of constable Bishwajit Gogai son Atul Gogai, resident of Goraguri, District Golaghat, Assam, who died in suspicious circumstances, was conducted so that the cause of death could be ascertained.

This firing incident in the military cantonment happened at 3 am on Thursday. The sound of firing came from outside the soldiers’ barracks built near the headquarters of Romeo Force. On hearing the sound of the bullet, the existing officers and jawans ran to the place from where the sound of the bullet came.

The soldiers saw that a soldier was lying in a pool of blood outside the barracks. His service rifle was lying on the ground near the soldier. The bullet hit the jawan in the lower part of the neck, which went out of the head. The soldier was immediately taken to the military hospital by his companions. In the preliminary examination, the doctors declared him brought dead.

On receiving information about the suspicious death of the constable, SHO Nagrota Vishwa Pratap Singh reached the spot, and after collecting the evidence from there, the body was sent to GMC Hospital for legal action.

Nagrota Sub Divisional Police Officer Pradeep Kumar said that the jawan was abused under what circumstances is a matter of investigation. The statements of other jawans posted with the constable will be recorded. Apart from this, the situation will be clear even after the forensic report comes. At present, the jawan’s body has been handed over to the army after conducting the post-mortem.
