State Congress Committee Jammu and Kashmir have criticized the government for not providing adequate security to the opposition leaders. The Party alleged that the government had provided security cover to the small rank leaders of the ruling Party, but the opposition is not being given security.
While addressing a press conference in Jammu on Wednesday, the Party’s state president Ghulam Ahmed Mir and caretaker president Raman Bhalla and other leaders accused the government and the BJP of adopting a discriminatory attitude. He said that Congress leaders are not being given security. There should be no discrimination in providing security. It is not right to not provide security to the leaders of the national-level Party. He said that the government should transparently implement security and provide minimum guarantees to the leaders as per the requirement. He alleged that the system of review and inspection of security is discriminatory. The ruling party leaders who do not need protection have been given vehicles with security cover. The condition is that the sarpanch and those who were never MLAs are also being given more security.
He said that Congress has faced terrorism, separatism and non-democratic forces but never adopted such discriminatory attitudes while in power. On the contrary, Congress, while in power, gave full respect to the opposition during its time. He said that the claims of normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir are not true, and terrorists are targeting security forces and civilians.
Congress has always worked shoulder to shoulder with the government to end terrorism, but it is not right to not give security to the party leaders. He asked Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and Home Minister to intervene in the matter, saying that the Party would protest and place its issues before the government in a democratic manner. He criticized the government on the issue of inflation and unemployment.
