On Thursday, authorities in Kashmir threatened to impose a lockdown if people didn’t take precautions to save themselves from Covid-19’s Omicron variant.

“If people do not take extra precautions and follow all directions for safeguarding themselves from the virus, lockdown remains the ultimate option”, Srinagar DM Aijaz Asad told media.

“We don’t want to suffer economically by imposing a lockdown. However, he added that people need to take appropriate and extra precautions to save themselves from getting infected with the virus”.

Asad said that covid-19 cases were rising continuously.

“There is no need to panic. Just follow the guidelines provided for taking precautionary measures. We are not in favour of imposing a lockdown”. However, Asad said the virus was changing colours, and nobody was hundred per cent sure that it would go away quickly.

He urged people not to “live in any misconception about the virus that the impact is mild. There are patients with comorbidities and elderly who are vulnerable”.
