Additional block to be built in Dental College Jammu at an estimated cost of Rs 44.46 crore

An additional block will be constructed at Indira Gandhi Government Dental College, Jammu, at an estimated cost of Rs 44.46 crore. The new block will reduce the increased patient load in various clinical departments. In addition, this construction will strengthen the infrastructure of hospital administration, emergency section, operation theatre, ward, prosthodontics and dental materials department, pedodontics department, oral pathology, dental histology department and community dentistry department.

In the meeting of the Administrative Council chaired by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, approval has been given for the construction of an additional block in the Dental College. Educational activities will also expand with the construction of other blocks. This will clear the way for starting PG courses from the next session. The enhanced structure in the additional block will also address the deficiencies in the building structure pointed out during the Dental Council of India (DCI) visit. The expansion of the college infrastructure aims to provide quality dental services to the public and introduce postgraduate courses in dental care.

Amidst the new challenges of Corona in Jammu and Kashmir, it is being expanded with further strengthening of health services. In this episode, one Medicity will be constructed at Miran Sahib in Jammu and Sempora (Pampore) in Kashmir. With this, the best health facilities will be available to lakhs of people of the state. This proposal was approved in the meeting of the Administrative Council held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Medicity was proposed by the Industries and Commerce Department.

The creation of Medicity in the private sector will strengthen health services in the Union Territory. With this, the capacity of health facilities will also increase in situations like the Corona disaster. The state’s people will not have to go to other states for modern treatment. Along with the construction of Medicity in Jammu, the people of Punjab adjoining the Lakhanpur border will also get medical benefits. The Miran Sahib area is located just a few kilometres away from the district headquarter, Jammu.

With the construction of Medicity here, about 17 lakh Jammu district population will benefit the most. Similarly, Medicity in Sempora will cover most of the districts of Kashmir. Medicity will act as a focal point for the people of Kashmir for specialized health services. The setting up of new medical and higher education institutions in the private sector is part of the new industrial policy.

Medicity aims to provide modern medical facilities in the private sector and bring huge investments to J&K on a large scale. Many prominent people in the health industry can come into it. Medical colleges, super-speciality hospitals, nursing colleges, pharmaceutical, hospital management, Ayurvedic colleges, medical education centres, AYUSH centres, research centres, etc., can be built in Medicity.
