NEW DELHI: Nine cases of Omicron variant in Rajasthan’s Jaipur and seven more in Maharashtra have taken India’s tally of the new variant to 21. The nine Omicron variant cases in Rajasthan have been detected in Jaipur.
Maharashtra’s Pimpri-Chinchwad has registered six cases, while Pune has got one case of the variant on Saturday. The genome sequencing of samples of nine people of a family that came to Jaipur from South Africa on December 5 confirmed the Omicron variant. The state health department has isolated the people who came in contact with the nine Omicron patients. The health department said that samples of 34 people, that included nine members of the family and people who came in contact with them were taken, of which nine people have been found to be positive for the Omicron variant. The remaining 25 people have tested negative.
The department said that one family from Sikar district’s Ajitgarh also came in contact with the nine Omicron patients, adding that the family was traced, tested and has tested negative.
